It’s time for another gathering! We had a good turn-out last month, and a few of us even moved on to Boundary Bay for a frothy discussion well past 8 o’clock. Feel free to come down any time.

I’ve got a few new apps I could show off, or we could discuss the latest trends in Rails development. We should also touch on whether anyone is drawn towards joining the RailsRumble team for the contest in September.

The discussion migrated to a variety of programming and computing topics last month, so don’t be shy about a lack of Ruby or Rails knowledge. We’re just a bunch of dudes (so far, though women are welcomed) who can speak geek. Join us!

Note that both of these guys work for Intridea, the authors of this app. Also, my wife has been nourishing me nightly with that grand-prize winning app, so we’re talking about actually improving people’s lives here!

So mark your calendars for approximately the weekend of Sept. 20th. We will recruit team members and brainstorm ideas at our August meeting!

I’ve set up a regular time and location to start in two weeks. I called it Software Independence Day and hope to commemorate the reformation of our local Ruby and Ruby on Rails user group. Leave any questions or feedback here, especially if you are having trouble joining or can’t make that time!

Well, actually the domain is forwarded to our new [bham.actsascommunity.com][../../../../groups/22-b-ham-on-rails] page. So is BhamRuby.org, the domain that Jorma set up to start this group back in ’07. We will now be doing our digital gathering on this social networking platform, as well as our physical gatherings in various brew houses and coffee shops about town. I look forward to meeting some more Bellingham Rubyists!

I just got back from RailsConf in Portland a few weeks ago, and I am pretty inspired by the quality of this community. That’s where I learned about Intridea (the people behind this app). A couple of their guys gave a talk about their experience doing the RailsRumble, one of which was the Grand Prize winner courtesy of Josh Owens and team. It’s called TastyPlanner, and I got my wife to start using it to cook at home this week, and our greek spaghetti dinner last night was delicious! See how Rails helps people improve the quality of their lives!?

Maybe a couple members of this group can form up for the 2008 Rumble. Just let me know so I can start brainstorming. I may have a few ideas up my sleeve already.
